Rachel Marisay – Bio
I was born in Fremont, Ohio, just outside Toledo, and stayed long enough to pick up the accent and a few East Coast habits—though I don’t share that with just anyone. I usually say I’m a Southern girl, because I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia.
I graduated from Purdue University with a double major in Advertising and English, but that all went out the window when I moved to Austin, Texas, for an internship at KNACK. That’s where I fell in love with radio, and nothing else mattered. I hosted my own show for a few years before taking a leap and moving to Prague, Czechoslovakia, to do radio there. The station was in an old KGB headquarters, and I literally had to climb the fire escape and crawl through a window to get to the studio. That short-lived dream lasted only a few months before I returned to Austin—then moved on to New York City for 1010 WINS and a quick stint at MTV. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to be part of listeners’ lives all over the country.
I’ve had plenty of adventures along the way—covering the O.J. Simpson trial, living on the streets of Los Angeles with the media, appearing on The Price Is Right (where I won a washer and dryer, but sadly not the Showcase Showdown), and even filming several workout videos at Keanu Reeves’ home in L.A. (Yes, I met him!)
These days, my proudest accomplishments have nothing to do with ratings or airchecks. Being a mom to my 15-year-old daughter, Madeleine, is at the top of the list—though I admit she has to help me with my phone and social media. I’m also devoted to my rescue dogs: Wendel, a pug, and Scarlett, a husky.
I volunteer every year for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and help feed and clothe the homeless. At home, I’m all about DIY—I watch reels, shop for tools, and have even learned some light construction while remodeling my older home.
I’ll admit, I’m always “working on” my weight, and I have a dream of launching a “do-over” show—something I’ll share more about later. Until then, I’m looking forward to getting to know you. I love meeting people, hearing their stories, and sharing a few of my own.
